I absolutely love reading those lists of what people, who I don’t know, are currently watching, listening to, reading, etc., so I thought I’d give it a go. So, here are the things I’ve been consuming and loving of late, so have a read and maybe I’ll make it a regular thing.
…Wearing:
Fringe- A lot of Western fringe. Shirts, a jumpsuit, a suede jacket - I can’t get enough of it. Aside from the my obvious and well-documented love for Westernwear, I think it’s the extra layer of texture that I enjoy. It’s not just a silk shirt or jumpsuit or jacket, it has movement, it has interest and it’s a lot of fun to shimmy in. As much as I love my shirts and jumpsuit, an extra shoutout has to go to the…
Suede Fringe Jacket- It has stopped pissing down with rain all the time
so I’ve FINALLY been wearing the suede fringe jacket I bought on a 1am Depop frenzy after the second time I saw The Iron Claw, and decided at that hour I needed a jacket like David’s… Well, thank you David Von Erich because this is my new favourite jacket, I wear it all the time and feel a bit like Davy Crockett by way of Dennis Hopper in Easy Rider. Yeehaw.
…Watching:
After Hours- Martin Scorsese, the delicious Griffin Dunne, New York, weird 80s shit. Loved it.
Natural Born Killers- So many mullets, not enough time! Not sure how it’s taken me to my thirtieth year to watch this, but better late that never. Loved how 90s by way of 70s and 50s nostalgia it is, the fashion is gorgeous and Robert Downey Jr’s accent choice is wonderfully bizarre. Are Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis in anything else together? I need more. Plus, I really like how Oliver Stone directs Quentin Tarantino films…
Married At First Sight Australia- When this is on, it completely takes over my life, and I am perfectly fine with that. This year has been JUICY, drama after drama and I am obsessed with Lucinda Light, I want to be friends with her. “You’ve got boobs as well…”
…Reading:
The Godfather, Mario Puzo- This was one hefty book, took me three months to read, but what an achievement. Cross that off the list! There were parts where the film had just lifted from the page, word-for-word, but for the most part it had a similar gossipy tone as Valley of the Dolls, which I really enjoyed. A two page description of Sonny’s penis and a chapter on a medically loose vagina? Yes please.
…Listening To:
One By Willie, Texas Monthly Podcast- I would like to get into podcasts more, but my mind always wanders, so I thought where I love Willie Nelson so much this’ll be nice and easy to get into. Each episode has a different guest who picks one Willie song and talks about what it means to them. It’s super sweet, funny and really nice to listen to when you’re baking a cake.
Gram Parsons- Oh how I love thee! A couple of years ago my mate Billy introduced me to the wonders of The Flying Burrito Brothers, and with the coming across some songs with Emmylou Harris, and being the subject of an Eve Babitz essay, Gram Parsons has been floating on the radar for a while, but I hadn’t listen to any of his solo albums until a few weeks ago. It was love at first listen, and I’ve been so obsessed that while editing a short story for a competition, I added in a few Gram-inspired touches. It’s stunning stuff and I encourage you all to listen.
So that’s what I’ve been consuming and I’d love to hear what you’ve all been wearing, watching, reading and listening to xx
